description The present article aims to analyze the tasks of the single-teacher teaching staff (PEU) and determine their training needs in the pedagogical and administrative fields. The research was carried out during the first semester of 2021 in school district 07 of the Regional Directorate of Education of Perez Zeledon, Costa Rica, with a sample of seven people, including six single teachers and their supervisor. The approach used was qualitative, with a case study design. For data collection, an initial analysis of documentary content was carried out, followed by a focus group with the participants and finally, two in-depth interviews were conducted. The results indicate that there are training deficiencies in the pedagogical field, especially in relation to constructivist methods, curricular contextualization, attention to diversity, current competencies and skills, ICT management, and authentic assessment. In the administrative field, there were training needs in topics such as the Quality Education Evaluation Model, financial and administrative management, budgets, minutes, tenders, payroll, infrastructure requests, digital and physical management files, and general plans. Additionally, the study identifies the lack of comprehensive university training and the need for updating and self-training processes in exercise for the PEU. In conclusion, the study shows the importance of more robust training for the PEU and adequate support during their exercise to guarantee quality educational services.

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar las tareas del profesorado de enseñanza unidocente (PEU) y determinar sus necesidades formativas en los ámbitos pedagógico y administrativo. La investigación se llevó a cabo durante el primer semestre del año 2021 en el circuito escolar 07 de la Dirección Regional de Educación de Pérez Zeledón (DREPZ), Costa Rica. La muestra la constituyen siete personas, que incluye seis unidocentes y su jefatura. El enfoque utilizado fue cualitativo, por medio de un diseño de estudio de caso. Para la recolección de la información, se realizó un análisis de contenido documental inicialmente, después se desarrolló un grupo focal con las personas participantes y finalmente se aplicaron dos entrevistas a profundidad. Los resultados indican que existen carencias formativas en el ámbito pedagógico, especialmente en relación con métodos constructivistas, contextualización curricular, atención a la diversidad, competencias y habilidades actuales, manejo de las TIC y evaluación auténtica. En el ámbito administrativo, se encontraron necesidades formativas en temas como el Modelo de Evaluación de Calidad de la Educación, manejo financiero y administrativo, presupuestos, actas, licitaciones, planillas, solicitudes de infraestructura, archivos de gestión digital y físico, y planes en general. Además, el estudio identifica la falta de formación integral universitaria y la necesidad de procesos de actualización y autocapacitación en ejercicio para el PEU. En conclusión, el estudio muestra la importancia de una formación más robusta e integrada para el PEU, así como un acompañamiento adecuado durante el ejercicio docente para garantizar un servicio educativo de calidad.
