El presente artículo analiza el acontecimiento del deseo como punto de articulación entre la subjetividad y la utopía, a partir de la revisión teórica pertinente. Se reflexiona sobre la compleja vinculación entre el deseo (cuyo origen es una carencia imposible de satisfacer) y las diversas utopías, sus interrelaciones, complementariedades y tensiones. Se concluye que las preferencias utópicas tienen que ver con cuestiones y demandas subjetivas, y no tanto con aspectos argumentales y principios de los sistemas utópicos.
