La temática central de este número titulado “CONFLICTOS AMBIENTALES EN ÉPOCA DE NEOLIBERALISMO”, fue realizada con la colaboración de la profesora Nancy Piedra Guillén, directora del Programa de Posgrado en Sociología. Guillén recopiló los aportes de Blanco y Castillo, quienes analizaron las consecuencias del extractivismo y del cambio climático en comunidades costarricenses donde prevalecen las actividades de agricultura y ganadería. Estas son regiones con altos índices de pobreza y desigualdad. Lo anterior, aunado a las consecuencias directas de los cambios climáticos extremos, hace que sean zonas vulnerables que reclaman prontas soluciones a la degradación ambiental, la explotación extrema de recursos y una mayor preocupación por la seguridad alimentaria de las poblaciones.
