Este artículo reseña las características sociodemográficas y espacio-temporales delos homicidios dolosos ocurridos en Costa Rica durante 1998 y 1999, a partir delestudio de las sentencias condenatorias que emitieron los tribunales de justicia. Sedestaca que tanto la mayoría de homicidas como de víctimas son hombres, lo cual seasocia con la relación existente entre masculinidad y violencia, así como otrascaracterísticas del autor del hecho. Además, se determinó que la mayoría de hechosse produjo en fin de semana y se expresa la preocupación de que Limón, laprovincia menos poblada del país, registre las tasas más elevadas de homicidiosdolosos por cien mil habitantes.
