Shrnutí:The main objective of this article is to trace the origins of the debate on equal marriage in Costa Rica by analyzing newspaper articles. An emphasis is made on the beginning of the discussion in the 90, in the political situations of early twenty-first century and the manner in which different social actors have participated in the exchange of views and arguments against or in favor. The positioning of marriage as the core of the political agenda is the product of a historical process influenced by transnational policy.
