Este artículo pretende establecer una continuidad entre los inicios de la teoría marxistaen la sociedad capitalista europea del siglo xix hasta el posmarxismo de la sociedad capitalistacontemporánea, teniendo como hilo conductor, la categoría de clase social en elpensamiento sociológico dentro de su larga trayectoria en el desarrollo histórico social delas ciencias humanas y sociales, en general y de la Sociología, en particular. Asimismo,presenta el análisis de la clase social en la investigación de la desigualdad económica planteadopor el marxismo analítico y los aportes de Eric Olín Wright, uno de sus máximosrepresentantes, con la idea de las posiciones contradictorias en las relaciones de clase y lapropuesta del concepto de estructura de clases a nivel micro de análisis para la investigaciónempírica.
