En la ampliación que se hizo al costado sur de la Avenida Segunda de San José, entre 1951y 1972, se demostró que la búsqueda de la regulación del flujo vehicular que transitaba poresta ciudad, se hizo a expensas de su patrimonio histórico-arquitectónico y de su identidadlocal. Debido a que esta ampliación en un principio no contó con el respaldo técnico y económicoque la sustentara, se considera que fue apresurada e improvisada. Este proyectourbanístico contó con el apoyo de la Curia Metropolitana, la cual vendió a la corporaciónmunicipal capitalina, el terreno donde se ubicaba El Sagrario, para su demolición.
