El objetivo principal de este artículo consiste en exponer los significados que el anciano bayamés utiliza para construir su percepción de bienestar subjetivo en la interacción con la sociedad. Además, se abordan las definiciones de bienestar subjetivo que poseen las personas adultas mayores, así como, los elementos necesarios para percibir bienestar en su vida. Los significados registrados se encuentran en dos direcciones: de la sociedad hacia el anciano (apoyo social, comprensión, respeto) y del anciano hacia la sociedad (aporte social).
