El presente estudio evalúa empíricamente el modelo bidimensional sobre el contenido de los estereotipos propuesto Fiske, Cudy, Glick y Xu (2002) en una muestra de 121 estudiantes universitarios costarricenses. Los resultados muestran que las dimensiones de calidez y habilidad representan dos principios básicos de percepción estereotípica de grupos sociales. Estas dimensiones permiten diferenciar cuatro percepciones estereotípicas (paternalismo, desprecio, envidia y admiración) y están asociadas a diversas expectativas, evaluaciones y emociones que regulan las interacciones sociales.
