Existe mayor variedad de hojas durante la estación lluviosa y de flores, durante la seca. Los tallos son perennes todo el año. Motivos culturales, urbanismo y prácticas agrícolas frenan su consumo actual, aunque la población les reconoce gran beneficio para la salud.
