El propósito de este artículo es examinar cómo las necesidades de sobrevivencia moldearon la conducta de los habitantes del interior de la región Pacífica centroamericana entre la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII y el fin de la era colonial, un período de particular movilidad social y geográfica. Para ello, se analiza información obtenida de archivos centroamericanos a través de las lentes de las estrategias de supervivencia, las uniones (formales o no) como recurso y el rol de las emociones en el proceso. Como resultado de esta investigación, se deduce que componentes afectivos (emociones) y biológicos (capacidades reproductivas), hasta hoy poco tratados por la historiografía centroamericana, fueron claves en el desarrollo de la sociedad colonial centroamericana. O objetivo deste artigo é examinar como as necessidades de sobrevivência moldaram o comportamento dos habitantes do interior da região do Pacífico centro-americano entre a segunda metade do século XVIII e o final da era colonial, período de particular mobilidade social e geográfica. Para isso, as informações obtidas nos arquivos da América Central são analisadas sob a ótica das estratégias de sobrevivência, as uniões (formais ou não) como recurso e o papel das emoções no processo. Como resultado desta pesquisa, deduziu-se que os componentes afetivos (emoções) e biológicos (recursos reprodutivos), até agora pouco tratados na historiografia centro-americana, foram fundamentais no desenvolvimento da sociedade colonial centro-americana.
