Entre 1973 y el 2003, se realizaron los llamados Certámenes de Paisaje Rural y algunos Certámenes de Paisaje Urbano, los cuales fueron organizados por instituciones estatales. El objetivo de este artículo es determinar las razones que tuvieron instancias oficiales para retomar e incentivar nuevamente el tema del paisaje rural, el cual había tenido una preponderancia en la década de 1930. Para esto, se recurrió principalmente a la consulta de periódicos de la época y archivos del Museo de Arte Costarricense y del Ministerio de Cultura Juventud y Deportes. Asimismo, fue relevante la realización de entrevistas a organizadores, artistas y jurados que participaron en dichos concursos. A la luz de estas fuentes, se estableció que –por un lado– el Estado se había convertido en un agente urbanizador y –por otro lado– se aferraba a una representación plástica de la nación: el paisaje rural. Entre 1973 e 2003, foram realizados os chamados Concursos de Paisagem Rural e alguns Concursos de Paisagem Urbana, organizados por instituições do Estado. O objetivo deste artigo é determinar os motivos que levaram as instâncias oficiais a retomar e incentivar novamente o tema da paisagem rural, o qual teve uma preponderância na década de 1930. Para isso, utilizou-se principalmente a consulta de jornais da época e arquivos do Museu de Arte da Costa Rica e do Ministério da Cultura, Juventude e Esportes. Também foi importante realizar entrevistas com organizadores, artistas e júris que participaram dessas competições. À luz dessas fontes, foi estabelecido que –por um lado– o Estado havia se tornado um agente urbanizador e –por outro lado– se aferrava a uma representação plástica da nação: a paisagem rural.
