Gaia:The present world appears increasingly marked by the mixture, overlap and coexistence of cultures. Latin America, with over 500 years of intense experience in this field, has processed a consistent and rich reflection on such issues which, although relatively little impact has been achieved in international academic debates, it would undoubtedly be of great relevance to the consideration of this today growing topic. In this article, we will focus on one of the most interesting theoretical categories developed from Latin América in relation to this problem: the notion of heterogeneity, especially as developed in the work by Antonio Cornejo Polar. It reviews various Peruvian and Latin American authors that, from perspectives sometimes different but generally complementary to that of Cornejo Polar, have worked well the category of heterogeneity.
